Happy Birthday David! It was David's birthday the 24th of January. He became 29 years old. We had several guests to our place for a little party. David made æbleskiver, tartelette, meatballs and other delicious food. Connie, Daniel, Peter, Mormor, Grethe, Tina and Pia came. It was hyggeligt:)

In this picture you can see Peter, David's cousin, David, and his grandmother, Mormor. They're looking at website made by Verner, Kirsten's cousin. The website is a family tree with pictures of everyone on the tree. It's really neat. Mormor had never seen it and was so excited to see pictures of her sister, her parents, etc.

Here you can see Daniel, Connie, David and Mormor in front of the computer. They're talking with David's dad, John. This was AMAZING for Mormor. She didn't know the things like Skype existed. She had such a good time seeing John. And Connie hadn't seen John in YEARS, so that was pretty cool too:) Ah, new technology....bringing the family together.

Here we have a picture of us with Grethe. She is David's grandfather's brother's wife. Her and her family have taken really good care of us while we've been here. We were so excited that she came to our place:)

Here is David chatting with Pia while making æbleskiver. Pia has also taken really good care of us. I got my job because of her handy work and influences. In the next few weeks, Pia and her husband Josef will be helping us look for another apartment. We've hoping to get a new place by June. We'll be renting, not subletting. It's something that Dave and I have always dreamed about...having our own place in Denmark:) Actually, getting a rental is key to us being able to stay in Denmark, so we're hoping it works out quickly and smoothly. Pia has also been our pastor in the local church. Her contract is up in the end of February, but we're all hoping that the people will decide to keep her.

Finally, we have a picture of Tina and Daniel. Daniel is Connie's husband. He's always so encouraging to us to keep pushing forward with applications, even when it seems like the doors are closed. When it comes to perseverence, he's got it, and it rubs off really well:)

Tina is one of our many angels (she would of course say she's just helping out people in need:) We had been in Denmark for only three weeks when we had to move and had nowhere to go. She opened her house to us. We lived with her for three weeks before we found our apartment here in Sydhavnen. She taught us a lot about networking, about keeping options open, about thinking positively yet realistically (a hard balance to have sometimes). We were so happy to have her over to meet our family.

During our time here, David has often mentioned that he misses the large family gatherings that used to take place when he was young. The best birthday gift that Dave had this year was having his friends and family together. We missed those who weren't able to come due to the flu...and we hope you feel better quickly. Maybe we can have an after flu party:) We also missed everyone from Canada. We hope to see some of you soon:):):)

New Years in Copenhagen

Well, we didn't plan to go out for New Years Eve. We had been down at Morfar's for the week, relaxing but also visiting with many of the neighbours. We had eaten so much food at Morfar's that we actually felt sluggish when we got back into the city. We were tired and decided to take it easy, have a romantic evening with healthy food, wine, and a movie.

We ate at 6pm and watched the Queen do her speech. We watched the movie and then chatted with David's dad and my mom. But as we chatted with them, we noticed that it was getting louder and louder outside. People were using fireworks all over the place. Also, there were several parties going on around us in the building. We could sing along with the music and hear the conversations because people were so jolly. SO, we decided that we might as well go out for a walk and see what's happening. We certainly weren't going to sleep. So we grabbed our beer and headed out. After a little, we thought, "We might as well go into the city where everyone is gathered and see it all up close." We hopped on the train and headed into the city. We arrived with 15min to spare.

As we got off the train, we noticed that it was a little smokey. We could see flashed of light in the clouds and a steady sound of explosions. As we followed the steady stream of people to the city square, we could see people with their new years hats, beer and champagne. We could see small groups of people gathered in small groups up and down the street. Each little group had fireworks and were setting them off in the streets or in the small squares. We headed towards Rådhusplads, the main square, and picked a spot to stand that was neither in the crowd nor against the buildings. And this is what we saw...

(the above picture is a video. It works on our computer, does it work on yours?)

Happy New Year Everyone!!!! We miss you all:)

P.S. When I went back to work after the holiday, I told my DANISH coworkers that we went to RådhusPladsen for New Years. They were like, "WHAT!! That's suicide!!")
