Well, we didn't plan to go out for New Years Eve. We had been down at Morfar's for the week, relaxing but also visiting with many of the neighbours. We had eaten so much food at Morfar's that we actually felt sluggish when we got back into the city. We were tired and decided to take it easy, have a romantic evening with healthy food, wine, and a movie.
We ate at 6pm and watched the Queen do her speech. We watched the movie and then chatted with David's dad and my mom. But as we chatted with them, we noticed that it was getting louder and louder outside. People were using fireworks all over the place. Also, there were several parties going on around us in the building. We could sing along with the music and hear the conversations because people were so jolly. SO, we decided that we might as well go out for a walk and see what's happening. We certainly weren't going to sleep. So we grabbed our beer and headed out. After a little, we thought, "We might as well go into the city where everyone is gathered and see it all up close." We hopped on the train and headed into the city. We arrived with 15min to spare.
As we got off the train, we noticed that it was a little smokey. We could see flashed of light in the clouds and a steady sound of explosions. As we followed the steady stream of people to the city square, we could see people with their new years hats, beer and champagne. We could see small groups of people gathered in small groups up and down the street. Each little group had fireworks and were setting them off in the streets or in the small squares. We headed towards Rådhusplads, the main square, and picked a spot to stand that was neither in the crowd nor against the buildings. And this is what we saw...
(the above picture is a video. It works on our computer, does it work on yours?)
Happy New Year Everyone!!!! We miss you all:)
P.S. When I went back to work after the holiday, I told my DANISH coworkers that we went to RådhusPladsen for New Years. They were like, "WHAT!! That's suicide!!")
